2/15/2012 - Public Information Meeting 1

On February 15, 2012, the Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT), in conjunction with Crawford, Murphy & Tilly, Inc. (CMT) held a public meeting regarding the Cedar Lake Road Phase I Project. The main goals of the first public meeting were to inform the public of the project, the existing conditions, and receive feedback about existing conditions. Four (4) exhibits were presented to the public and they are shown below with descriptions. If you did not receive an invite to the public meeting and would like to in the future, please fill out the form in the "Get Involved" section of this website.

Schedule Schedule Click on picture to enlarge. The current schedule is based on a 2015 construction date. The land acquisition process takes time and is often considered a critical path item in the schedule. Therefore, construction is scheduled for 2015 in anticipation of the R.O.W. acquisition process. All dates shown for future public meetings are approximate and more information will be available as they get closer.

Aerial Click on picture to enlarge. An aerial image of the project corridor outlines the improvement limits and provides pictures of several locations throughout the project.  The proposed section of Cedar Lake Road south of Illinois Route 120 is currently under construction and should be completed in 2012.  These improvements are shown at the intersection of Cedar Lake Road and Illinois Route 120, which will include a signalized intersection.  The brown lines represent the roadway right-of-way and the pink lines are property parcels.  A critical part of the public involvement process is getting feedback from local residents on any current issues they have with existing conditions.

Traffic Traffic Click on picture to enlarge. The existing and proposed traffic data is provided for Cedar Lake Road and the side streets along the project corridor. Average daily traffic (ADT) is a measure of the total number of vehicles that travel the roadway within 24 hours. The existing mainline traffic for Cedar Lake Road and Illinois Route 120 was measured in 2009 and provided by Lake County Division of Transportation. Manual counts were conducted by CMT in 2011 at each intersection in order to determine the peak (highest) AM and PM traffic volumes. The intersection details show the mainline and turning movements for the AM and PM peak hours. Traffic along the side streets is not projected to increase due to the assumption that the residential areas appear to be fully developed. The 2040 traffic projection along Cedar Lake Road was provided by CMAP (Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning) and is based on several factors including the extension of Cedar Lake Road to the south, future roadway projects, and local development.

Crash Crash Data Click on picture to enlarge. Crash data from the last three years (2008 to 2010) was reviewed to determine the level of safety for Cedar Lake Road.  A total of 8 crashes were reported along the project corridor for that time frame.  Intersection details are provided to display the types of crashes reported.  Crashes along the roadway segments are called out accordingly.  Given the number of crashes, the roadway appears to be operating at a safe level.
